ASSIGNMENT 1

Knowledge management consists of initiatives, processes, strategies, and systems that sustain and enhance the storage, assessment, sharing, refinement, and creation of knowledge. There are six dimensions in supporting KM, which are strategy, organizational culture, organizational processes, leadership, technology and corporate politics. Within these dimensions, KM becomes the internal mechanisms for coordination, which is the mechanism for pooling the key information garnered from these dimensions to monitor external volatility and discover new opportunities or innovation for the organization. The management of knowledge could be look from these six dimensions or perspectives.

1. Managing the Knowledge: From Strategy Perspectives

2. Managing the Knowledge: From Organizational Culture Perspectives

3. Managing the Knowledge: From Organizational Processes Perspectives

4. Managing the Knowledge: From Leadership Perspectives

5. Managing the Knowledge: From Technology Perspectives

6. Managing the Knowledge: From Corporate Politics Perspectives

INSTRUCTIONS:

You are required to choose ONE from these six dimensions or perspective as listed above and write a minimum of TWO pages report. To complete this task, you are needed to identify one specific organization to study. (example: FTSM, postgraduate unit) For any perspectives that you have chosen and particularly for specific organization under your study,

i. Name the organization of your choice, give some brief information on this organization (their background of business, business profile, organization chart)

ii. What is the best way to manage the knowledge? From the perspective you have chosen.

Example:

· knowledge on student selection process (rules, requirement)

· how to share the knowledge with the staff involve in the selection process, inquiry, communication.

Technology Perspectives:

· how to establish the communication among the staff, or

· how to improve the process

iii. Identify how to innovate for further improvement in managing the knowledge. (example: innovate in terms of technology used to improve the knowledge sharing)

iv. In what way, the proposed innovation (iii) able to improve organization performance     

The content of the report should include the findings as listed above.
