Bank Management
Assignment 2023-2024
The Bank Management assignment is a“ individual project requiring each of you to report a critical analysis of Barclays. The pandemic has caused banks’ credit risk exposures and impairment costs to increase significantly, which has placed tremendous pressure on profitability leading to large falls in the market value of bank stocks in 2020.
Jes Staley, the CEO of Barclays, has spoken of the benefits of its universal banking business model. Specifically, the contribution made by the investment bank in helping to offset pressures on profit caused by rising credit risk exposure.
Your Analyst Report should present Barclays’ business model from the presentation of financial results in July 2020. Using the financial results data for the business segments you identify, quantify and compare developments in performance and risks over 2019 and 2020. Use the CAMELS methodology commonly employed by bank regulators to assess the performance of the consolidated results and the business segments. Please ensure to use capital ratios and liquidity ratios introduced by Basel 3. Complement your analysis with commentary that explains how the business model is responding to the challenges posed by the pandemic. Your analysis should consider what the strengths and weaknesses of the business model are in terms of helping Barclays deal with the pandemic.
