You are required to submit an essay of 1000 words by 27 October 2023, 23:59. The essay should answer the following questions:

You have been asked by the Australian Institute of Family Studies to prepare a short essay on the impact of COVID-19 on some of the social issues in Australia. In your essay, use economic concepts and perspectives to address the following issues:

A. Describe the trends in marriage, divorce, and fertility rates in Australia over the last 50 years. Are there any irregular changes to the rates DURING and AFTER the pandemic? Make sure you have the diagram(s) to support your answer.

B. Why might marriage, divorce and fertility rates display such paterns DURING and AFTER COVID-19? In your answer, identify and explain the factors/policies that might impact people’s decision about marriage, divorce and having children (at least 3 factors for each of the social issue).

C. From an economic perspective, how do individuals make decisions about whether to get married, divorce, and having children? Can we use this economic model to explain for what happens in Australia AFTER the pandemic as identified in part A.

D. Fear about an aging population in Australia, the government would like to provide greater incentives for marriage, greater costs for divorce, and more incentives for higher fertility rate. What policies you might recommend (could be more than one policy)? In your answer, provide and explain some unintended consequences of such policies.
