MDA10018 – CONTENT CREATOR LAB
INDIVIDUAL PRODUCTION PROJECT B – PHOTO ESSAY
DUE DATE: Sunday October 1st 2023
Aim:
Working individually, you will produce a photo essay consisting of 6 photos. The theme of the assignment will be “place”. You will need to decide on a “place” for your photo essay, create pre-production material, complete the photo shoot and edit your selected photos for submission.
Photo Theme: Place
You will need to choose a place that can be well represented in a series of 6 photos. While this can be an indoor or outdoor location, we are STRONGLY advising you to choose a subject where photos can be taken outdoors with good light.
Before choosing a place, look through the required photo list and think about how each photo would apply to a location to ensure it’s suitable for this assignment.
Pre-production elements to include:
In addition to your photos, you will be submitting pre-production materials including a location scout, JSA (Job Safety Analysis) and a shot list.
Method:
You will use your mobile phone with Adobe Lightroom installed to capture your photos in RAW format. Do not use your phone’s native camera app. You will then edit your photos in Adobe Lightroom Classic on your computer in preparation for submission.
Breakdown of the task
1) Decide on your location or “Place”. Aim for outdoor places that have a good variety of backgrounds, but are not too large to capture in 6 photos.
2) Organise for someone to model in your photos. Many shots require a human subject, so find someone to assist you early on who’s happy to be in front of the camera. This can be a classmate or friend/family member.
3) Do a location scout of your chosen place to ensure it’s suitable and take snapshots for reference (these will be submitted later). Create a shot list for the shot day and complete your JSA to ensure your shoot happens safely.
4) Complete your shoot based on your shotlist. Be sure to experiment and shoot lots of variations to give yourself more options in post-production.
5) Transfer your photos from your phone to your computer and then select your 6 photos in Adobe Lightroom Classic. Edit these photos in colour (no black and white) to make them look their best.
6) Export your 6 deliverable photos AND a Lightroom catalogue with just your 6 chosen photos.
7) Sort all your deliverable material into the provided folder structure, ensure everything is correctly named and zip the folder before submission to Canvas.
8) Submit your JPEGs to your portfolio.
