faculty instruction and about two hours of out of class student work for a 15-week course; 100 minutes a week of classroom or direct faculty
instruction and about 3.5 hours of out of class student work for a 7.5- week course.
For a three-credit course, students should expect 2.5 hours a week of
classroom or faculty instruction and a minimum of 5 hours of out of class student work for a 15-week course; 5 hours of classroom or direct faculty instruction and a minimum of 10 hours of out of class student work for a 7.5-week course.
Attendance Policy
Students are expected to attend and participate in all weekly classes.
Policy on late work
• As receiving timely feedback is more effective for learning, please make every effort to turn
work in on time. Special permission for any extensions due to extenuating circumstances must be requested in writing to the instructor prior to the due date of the assignment.
• * Late assignments must be completed within one week of the due date or they will receive no credit.
• Each assignment is due at 11:59 pm EST on the date indicated unless otherwise noted by the instructor. All work must be submitted on Canvas or through the Pearson MyLab account setup for this course.
• If you are absent when an assignment is due, the assignment must still meet the deadline or suffer the penalty of being late.
• Extra credit assignments are not available on an individual basis. There may be optional extra credit opportunities offered to everyone in the class that can be used to improve your overall grade.
Course Methodology
Each week, you will be expected to:
1. Review the week's learning objectives.
2. Complete all assigned readings.
3. Complete all lecture materials for the week.
4. Participate in the Discussion Board.
5. Complete and submit all assignments to MyLab and to Canvas by the due dates.
Discussion Board Policy
• Most of the discussions will be on non-technical topics, like avoiding plagiarism and protecting your work.
• Discussion Expectations:
o All students are expected to post initial comments to Discussion Board topics by mid- week (for example, Wednesday midnight).
o Comments and responses should make it clear that the student has thought
about the topic. Relating personal observations or experiences is encouraged; while merely reiterating points from other posts or the lesson is not. Posing
questions for other students (or the instructor!) is a good way to keep a discussion going.
o Responses to classmates should be respectful and helpful. It is perfectly
acceptable to disagree, as long as this is done in a polite and constructive
manner. Providing additional examples to support a thought on a post is also helpful.
o Grades in the forum will be based on the quality of the contributions, and the
number of posts. A student with fewer posts that provide significant insight and new ideas may receive a similar score to one who made more, but less
significant, entries. Some topics will naturally generate more discussion points than others.
o In general, the highest scores are given to the student(s) with the highest quality/quantity of posts relative to the other students for the same topic.
