Q1 (4 mark). "Could data analysis have saved the Challenger?"

January 1986: the Challenger shuttle exploded 1 minute into flight, killing all 7 astronauts aboard. On the night before the launch, engineers warned NASA that it was suspected that rocket booster O-rings failed at low temperatures.

The forecast for launch day was an unusually cool 30 F (-1 oC). The full NASA data set (in chronological order) is shown below in table 1 and table 2.

If you’d had this data available, would you have recommended to abort the mission? Use two most suitable hypothesis tests that you have leant in this unit to answer this question.  The methods can be from either Module 1 or Module 2.

Q2 (4 mark). "air temperature vs wind speed"

Do you think there is a linear relationship between air temperature and wind  speed around Perth region? You will need search for Perth weather data from internet to answer this question using methods that you have learned in this   module.

Instruction for the assignment:

.   Due date: 11:59PM, Monday 11/9/2023

.   Submission through LMS with a PDF report file and supporting documents (python code, Excel etc).

.   The report can be hand-written or typed. All code, table, figures,    conclusions, and assumptions need to be described with sufficient information.

.   Null hypothesis needs to be stated and justified.

.   Proper hypothesis test procedure needs to be followed.

.   Calculations need can be done through Python, Excel or by hand.

.   If python is used, the program code needs to be included in the report file. A python file (*.ipynb) needs to be submitted.

.   If Excel is used, all the input and output of the Excel file need to be   included in the report pdf file.  The Excel file needs to be submitted.

.   Reference needs to be provided for Q2 (IEEE).
