Assessment Information

This assignment is designed to assess learning outcomes:

1. Apply probability and other quantitative techniques to management data.

2. Analyse realistic management problems based on analysis of data sets and case materials.

3. Apply the techniques studied to interpret and communicate findings on data analysis.

This assignment is an individual assignment.

This assignment requires you to perform the following tasks:

Task 1: (25 Marks)

Create a small project within an organisation of Construction Industry you choose and include at least 12 activities with predecessors:

1- Show each activity name, duration, and code in a table

2- Draw the project network showing each activity

3- Calculate the earliest and latest starting and finishing time

4- Calculate duration, total float, and the critical path.

Task 2: (35 Marks)

The attached file named “CW2 Survey Data.xls” contains the data of an anonymous survey.

Click on the red triangles, within the spreadsheet, to see details of each variable.

The purpose of this report is to:

1- Describe the sample by Pivotable and different types of data Visualization Diagrams

2- Investigate whether factor Age influence the type of type of accommodation students stay in during term time by Chi-Square (Χ²) Tests

The report should contain quantitative information, summary statistics and appropriate charts and tables.

The marking scheme is as follows:

ü Report Structure and Presentation

a. Description of the data. [10 marks]

b. Investigation of factors affecting choice of term time accommodation. [10 marks]

Task 3 [40 Marks]

Use the survey data to conduct regression analysis to investigate the relationship between the duration on a computer and the average time of exercise do students in a week.

1. Conduct linear regression analysis. Perform, using Excel, Data Analysis Pack, Regression function, the regression analysis. [5 marks]

2. Produce the scatterplot including a fitted regression line. [5 marks]

3. Write the regression equation using the results of the excel table. [5 marks]

4. Determine and interpret the slope and the intercept. [8 marks]

5. Determine and interpret the R-squared value. [5 marks]

6. Give predictions for the average time of exercise do students in a week when duration on a computer is:

a. 20 minutes [4 marks]

b. -30 minutes [4 marks]

7. Are the variables in your regression model statistically significant to your model?

Give a justification for your answer. [4 marks]

Criteria for Assessment

This CW will assess the learning outcomes 1-3

Word Count

The word count is 2000 words. There will be a penalty of a deduction of 10% of the mark (after internal moderation) for work exceeding the word limit by 10% or more.

The word limit includes quotations and citations but excludes the references list.

The assessment must be submitted by 3/07/23 No paper copies are required. You can access the submission link through the module web.

· Your coursework will be given a zero mark if you do not submit a copy through Turnitin. Please take care to ensure that you have fully submitted your work.

· Please ensure that you have submitted your work using the correct file format, unreadable files will receive a mark of zero. The Faculty accepts Microsoft Office and PDF documents, unless otherwise advised by the module leader.

· All work submitted after the submission deadline without a valid and approved reason (see below) will be given a mark of zero.

· The University wants you to do your best. However, we know that sometimes events happen which mean that you can’t submit your coursework by the deadline – these events should be beyond your control and not easy to predict.  If this happens, you can apply for an extension to your deadline for up to two weeks, or if you need longer, you can apply for a deferral, which takes you to the next assessment period (for example, to the resit period following the main Assessment Boards). You must apply before the deadline.

Return of Marked Work

You can expect to have marked work returned to you within 15 working days. If for any reason there is a delay you will be kept informed. Marks and feedback will be provided online and face to face. As always, marks will have been internally moderated only, and will therefore be provisional; your mark will be formally agreed later in the year once the external examiner has completed his / her review.
