2. Explain how webmail works, using a 3-tier, thin client.

3. Assume the case of Figure 1 below, where the client computer 128.192.95.32 in Building B requests a large Web page from the server www.1anyorg.com in Building A . Assume that the client computer has just been turned on and does not know any addresses other than those  in  its  configuration  tables. Assume  that  all  gateways  and Web  servers  know  all network layer and data link layer addresses. Explain what messages would be sent and how they would flow through the network to first deliver the Web page request to the server and then send the requested page to the client.

4. Please design and justify a network design for the following case: Computer Dynamics is a microcomputer  software  development  company that has  a  300-computer network. The company is located in three adjacent five-story buildings in an office park, with about 100 computers in each building. The local area networks (LANs) in each building are similar, but one building has the data centre on the second floor. There are no other office locations. The  current network  is poorly  designed  for  its  current needs  and must be  completely replaced. Develop a logical design  for this enterprise campus that considers the  seven network architecture components. There are no other campuses, so you can omit the wide area network (WAN) access. You will need to make  some assumptions,  so be  sure to document your assumptions and explain why you have designed the network in this way.

5. Please provide advice to a layperson about wireless versus wired LANs by considering the following case: Your cousin Tom runs a small construction company that builds custom houses in Canberra. He has just started a new specialty service that he is offering to other builders on a subcontracting basis: home automation. He provides a complete service of installing cable or Wi-Fi in all the rooms in which the homeowner wants data access and installs the necessary networking devices to provide a LAN that will connect all the desired devices (e.g., laptops, tablets, and smartphones) in the house to the Internet. Tom has come to you for advice. What type of wired or wireless LAN would you recommend, taking into account the recent national broadband network (NBN) developments in Canberra? Tom is also confused what the following concepts mean: Wi-Fi, LAN, and NBN.

7. Diego Lopez is the managing partner of Accurate Accounting (AA), a small accounting firm that operates a dozen offices in California. AA provides audit and consulting services to  a  growing  number  of  small-  and  medium-sized  firms,  many  of  which  are  high technology  firms.  Its  staff typically  spend many  days  on-site with  clients  during their consulting and audit projects, but has increasingly been using instant messaging (IM) and email to work with clients. Now, many firms are pushing AA to adopt videoconferencing. While AA’s email system enables it to exchange email with any client, using IM has proved difficult because AA has had to use one IM software package with some companies and different IM software with others. Diego is concerned that videoconferencing may prove to be as difficult to manage as IM. He asks you: Why cannot IM work as simply as email? How does IM works as a packet flow from the sender’s to the recipient’s computer and what is the difference between this flow and the respective packet flow for email? Will the new videoconferencing software and hardware work as simply as email, or will it be IM all over again? Format your answer as a max 500-word essay.
