ADMINISTRATION:

•   The test is a Canvas quiz.

•   The test starts at 6.00 pm on Friday 26th May 2023.

•   The test ends at 8.15 pm on Friday 26th May 2023.. You have 135 minutes to complete the test with a 15-minute grace period for any technical issues as per the university       guidelines.

•   Open the Canvas quiz named “Test 02 (15%)” to begin the test, on the scheduled date and time of the test.

•   Questions will be presented in the quiz, and answers are to be entered in the quiz.

•   The quiz has ONLY ONE attempt possible. (You can SUBMIT just once).

•   The questions are designed to be completed in less than 130 minutes, provided you are well prepared and manage your time well.

•   If any questions require the manipulation of a dataset, the files will be made available to you to download in those questions.

•   Where a question requires the manipulation of a specific file, the question will make it clear if a file is needed, and which file is needed.

•   You are required to save these files in a single location in case you need to refer to a specific file to check your answers. Be organised.

SCOPE:

1.   Analysing and visualising information for business intelligence using Tableau

2.   Cleaning, preparing, and analysing information using Power BI

3.   Information querying in relational databases using SQLite

FORMAT:

•   The test comprises ofTHREE key sections and 13 questions for a total of 100 marks.

•   The number of points allocated for each question will be visible with the question text.

•   Attempt ALL questions.

•   Section 1– the questions in this section focus on topic 1 from SCOPE listedabove.

•   Section 2– the questions in this section focus on topic 2 from SCOPE listedabove.

•   Section 3– the questions in this section focus on topic 3 from SCOPElisted above.

Test 02 - preparation advice

Question order:

•   There is no reason (from your point of view) for a specific section to be attempted first; the reason is for marking convenience only. You may attempt the questions in any order you wish.

Questions can be of THREE different formats:

1) Format 1: MCQ (single value answer)

•   Partial marks are NOT possible for single value answer questions.

2) Format 2: short written answer

•   Questions will require short text or SQL queries as answers.

•   Questions of this format may have sub-questions.

•   Partial marks are possible in these questions.

•   Long in-depth discussions are not required in any of these questions. Be precise and concise.

3) Format 3: File upload as an answer.         These questions will require the upload of a:

•   Tableau workbook and Power BI workbook which contains the visualisations and data manipulations you have generated.

•   You MUST ensure that you UPLOAD your file submissions for these questions   BEFORE the DEADLINE for the quiz expires and the quiz closes automatically.

Preparation suggestions:

•   Understand the point of the class exercises and lab exercises.

•   Understand the point of the theoretical discussions we have had in class as well as the applied exercises.

•   Attempt the class exercises and lab exercises again. These are a very good way to practice for the test.

•   Understand the purpose of the group project tasks which involve the use of Tableau.

•   Be proficient in using SQLite DB Browser to view, explore and manipulate relational data using SQL.

•   Know how to write simple SQL statements using WHERE conditions, ORDER BY clause and JOIN keyword and use simple functions as discussed in class.

•   Know how to interpret and manipulate data in tabular format in Tableau and PowerBI

•   Know how to clean data and perform various transformations including using DAX functions in PowerBI

•   Know how to create suitable visualisations to ask questions of the data and make informed judgements based on the data visualisations using Tableau.

Special instructions – Power BI for Mac users

•   Power BI is not supported on Mac devices.

•   It is available on FlexIT.

•   However, FlexIT services may be very unreliable when multiple users are accessing it at the same time.

•   Failures in FlexIT services cannot be mitigated at all by the course team and ifyou opt to use the service you should be aware of the risk of losing all your work.

•   Therefore, Mac OS users are encouraged to use the OBBG lab computers for attempting the test instead of relying on FlexIT services.

•   The following labs will be open and reserved for the INFOMGMT 192 test on Friday 26th May

2023 from 6.00 pm – 8.30 pm.

•   You must keep in mind that the Test is an individual assessment, and that breaches of academic integrity would be dealt with accordingly when using the lab computers to attempt the test.

Special instructions – Publishing your worksheets on Tableau

Public on the OGGB lab computers

Step 1:

After you complete your worksheets, click Server button on the menu bar.

Select Tableau Public tab → Save to Tableau Public or Save to Tableau Public As

Sign in your Tableau Public account as below:

Then go to Data tab on the menu bar then click to data source name t select Extract Data then follow

instructions to complete extracting.

After you have done ALL the extract data as requested, Tableau will start publishing your worksheets.
