1 Subject details
1.1 Student participation requirements
The JCULearning, Teaching and Assessment Procedures(2.1.2d) indicates a typical student workload for a three (3) credit point subject requires a 130 hour work load of study related activities, including attendance, assessment and self-directed study over the duration of the subject with equivalency across all attendance modes.
Note that attendance at specified classes will be a mandatory requirement for satisfactory completion of some subjects (Learning, Teaching and Assessment Procedures, 3.1.8e) and that additional hours may be required per week for those students in need of English language, numeracy or other learning support.

1.3 Subject description
This subject firstly introduces students to a foundation on ethics and what ethics actually means and then, by way of practical examples and case studies, builds an appreciation and understanding of good governance practice in modern organisations
1.4 Subject learning outcomes and course learning outcomes
On successful completion of this subject, you will be able to:
• SLO1: evaluate contexts within which differing sustainable business performance methods should be integrated and applied
• SLO2: research and apply established concepts to solve business and professional practice problems
• SLO3: apply independent ethical judgement and initiative in solving differing business problems creatively
• SLO4: apply independent ethical judgement and initiative in solving business problems for differing audiences using clear and fluent written communication
These outcomes will contribute to your overall achievement ofcourse learning outcomes.

• From 2022, following extensive consultation with students and lecturers, this subject is now embedded in a formal textbook framework, drawing on the extensive global corporate governance expertise of Professor Bob Tricker.

Your prescribed textbook for this subject is ‘Corporate Governance – principles, policies and practices 4th Edition by Bob Tricker, Oxford University Press’ . Extra readings and resources are provided on the LearnJCU subject site within the appropriate topic folder. Readings consist of a variety of different levels and contexts, from books available on line through the library to articles from newspapers and web sites. Students are encouraged to read widely in each topic area, beyond the readings supplied. Reading and watching current business issues in the media is encouraged.
Use the Readings platform for all your readings and other resources, including prescribed and recommended textbooks, eTextbooks, journal articles, digitised chapters, websites, links to Library Guides, LinkedIn Learning, relevant referencing style guides and video content (e.g. YouTube, LinkedIn Learning, Kanopy, Anatomy TV, Vetstream etc.). 2.2 Requirements for successful completion of this subject
In order to pass this subject, you must:
• Achieve an overall percentage of 50% or more
• Submit a credible attempt at all assessment items within this subject. Students who have completed less than 100% of the assessment will be subject to review by the College Assessment Committee which could result in an ‘X’ grade (Fail (did not sit for exam/s or did not complete at least 80% of assessment requirements or deferred exam not granted)
Final results for this subject will be graded as described in theStudent Results Policy.
Supplementary examinations/supplementary assessments are available for this subject, in accordance with theLearning, Teaching and Assessment Procedure(3.2.10) and theStudent Results Policy(2.1)
2.2.1 How do I track my progress in this subject?
Students will receive feedback on the assessment components 1 and 2 that will help them understand the learning requirements of the subject including for the final exam component . Further discussion will take place during tutorials where also more broader feedback related to assessment and learning will be provided.
