1 Subject details
1.1 Student participation requirements
The JCU Learning, Teaching and Assessment Procedures (2. 1.2d) indicates a typical student workload for a three (3) credit point subject requires a 130 hour work load of study related activities, including attendance, assessment and self-directed study over the duration of the subject with equivalency across all modes of delivery.
Note that attendance at specified classes will be a mandatory requirement for satisfactory completion of some subjects (Learning, Teaching and Assessment Procedures, 3. 1.8e) and that additional hours may be required per week for those students in need of English language, numeracy or other learning support.

The subject provides a comprehensive understanding of the role of strategically planned marketing activity in organizations and emphasizes innovative customer value, building strong brands and creating effective market communications utilizing current and emerging technology.

1.6 Subject resources and special requirements
The recommended text for this subject is:
Pride, W. M., & Ferrell, O. C. (2021). Foundations of marketing. Cengage Learning. 9E.
Please note that will we be using the standard form of the textbook (not‘MindTap’). The standard text is available in hard copy and as an e-book. The textbook is also available in limited copies through the JCU Library.
Students will need a copy of the textbook to navigate the subject. There will be regular topic readings used throughout the subject delivery using this textbook. The textbook is new to the market this year and provides a good grounding in marketing beneficial as an industry resource after completion of the subject.
Additional subject readings and resources, including journal articles, book chapters, websites, videos, print and are available to view online from your Readings list via your LearnJCU subject site.
Use the Readings platform for all your readings and other resources, journal articles, digitised chapters, websites, links to Library Guides, LinkedIn Learning, relevant referencing style guides and video content (e.g. YouTube, LinkedIn Learning, Kanopy, Anatomy TV, Vetstream etc.). Readings is linked to your LearnJCU site through an LTI in the tools menu. Assistance with using the Readings platform is available from the Readings at JCU Guide.
Please note that the subject reading provides you with oncourse content readings, and together with the textbook, forms the basis for topic activities. You are expected to conduct your own research using the JCU library site for additional resources supporting your assessments in this subject.

2.2 Requirements for successful completion of this subject
To pass this subject, you must:
• Achieve an overall percentage of 50% or more.
• Demonstrate a reasonable attempt on all assessment items. Students who have completed less than 100% of the assessment will be subject to review by the College Assessment Committee which may result in an ‘X’ grade (Fail).
