1.   First, complete the information in the table .

2.   Based on your knowledge and understanding of macroeconomic indicators, determine in which decade macroeconomic performance was the soundest . More than likely, the statistics indicate a similar performance for a number of decades . So , you need to consider how the pursuit of economic security was balanced with equity and social justice in your assessment .

3.   Support your choice with an explanation . While you can draw normative conclusions, your choice would reflect a positive analysis of how individuals, firms and government actually behave, not how they should behave .

Your response to this question needs to be at least 500 words .

Based on your knowledge and understanding, explain why the economy is currently facing higher than expected rates of inflation . In addition, discuss the likelihood of the economy being in a recession or facing a possible recession . [Reminder: an independent panel of experts at the NBER determines when a recession begins and ends in the United States . You are asked to consider the likelihood .]

Illustrate and explain this current economic situation in a model of the macroeconomy . In your response use the following prompts to guide your argument:

1.   Start  your  aggregate  demand-aggregate  supply  (AD-AS)  model  in  a recessionary output gap and with the aggregate price level below the expected price level . [Hint: Use the AD-AS diagram posted in the folder on Moodle .]

2.   Describe how personal choices of consumers and business firms as well as the policy actions of fiscal and monetary policymakers are affecting aggregate demand (AD) and short-run aggregate supply (SRAS) .

3.   Show how these changes in AD and SRAS are illustrated in the AD-AS model .

4.   Explain the changes you illustrated in the model .

Use statistical information from official sources in your response:

1.   Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) for output and price indices

2.   Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) for labor market indicators

3.   Congressional Budget Office (CBO) for fiscal policy

4.   Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) for monetary policy

5.   The Conference Board for leading indicators
