MATH 340 Project Overview
● The project consists of numerically solving an initial value problem using either Runge-Kutta Order 4 on a higher-order differential equation or a system of differential equations.
● You are encouraged to use reputable online references to help you choose, construct, and validate your work, but these must be cited in the text and included in the References section. You may use the SIMIODE Modeling Scenariosto spark ideas, but note that not all of the scenarios on this website qualify as a higher-order differential equation or system of differential equations.
● The project may be completed individually or in a group of two or three. If working in a group, all group members must adhere to the Group Contract.
● You will submit three items over the course of the project: (i) Topic and Group Selection, (ii) Project Draft, (iii) Finalized Project. Please see the corresponding Canvas assignments for detailed instructions and rubrics for each item.
● The project report must include the following sections:
1. Title and Names 2. Abstract 3. Introduction 4. Methods
5. Examples (with two plots) 6. Discussion 7. References 8. Appendix
● Sections 1-7 comprise your main report and must be at least two pages total, typed, single-spaced, 12-point font, 1-inch margins.
● In addition, you must include additional pages for the Appendix. The Appendix must include all code written and used for the project and any supporting plots (if applicable).
● You must use LATEX to type your report. (See this Overleaf template.)
● The typed report should meet all the expected standards of academic excellence and it should be highly sophisticated in computational content. You need to include and explain the main equations of your model in the Introduction.
● You must include and explain at least two figures in the Methods and/or Examples sections.
● The report should be written so that a math major is able to understand the project. For checking spelling and grammar, I suggest consulting the CSUF Writing Center and/or using Grammarly.
● The final document should be submitted as a single PDF file with the main report followed by the ap- pendix. The full document is due by 11:59 PM on Friday, December 2, 2022 via Canvas/Gradescope. (NO LATE REPORTS WILL BE ACCEPTED.)
